Pause Long Enough to Live

When my feet were placed on the path, I started walking.
I guess my body always knew what was expected of me.

And as I trudged on,
whatever the weather,
no matter the weariness,
I asked whoever passed
if I could stop now.

No one ever said yes,
but, thank God, I finally did.
